As you know, I'm a real fan of Charles Peterson. Admittedly, I like all his paintings. But I'm like anyone else; every once in awhile an image comes along that I think is really special. First Love is one of those. This painting simply conveys its message so clearly that it penetrates through and stays with you. I never had a horse as a little girl (come to think of it, I was never a little girl, either) but it makes me feel like I did. That's what art should do.
